The Magical Power of Herbs

Plants have been used for medicinal purposes from the beginnings of civilization. Not only did ancient cultures use herbs as medicine to rid the body of many ailments, but as much as 80 percent of people worldwide use herbal medicine today as their primary medical treatment, according to the World Health Organization.

Medicinal herbs are used internally as infusions or tinctures or in topical preparations as poultices and creams, alone or in a variety of combinations. Herbs are also used to make essential oils.

Most of the herbs we use in the kitchen have medicinal properties. Amazingly, they are inexpensive, readily available and add so much flavour to our food! As a nutritionist, I can't stress enough the importance of using herbs in our daily recipes.
